Renovation and interior design project carried out in the iconic “Casa Viturro” building in the center of A Coruña, a benchmark of Art Nouveau in Spain and of local modernism.

The apartment was stripped back to repair damp, leaks, and insulation issues in windows and party walls. Next, new lining was installed to improve the thermal and acoustic performance throughout, and a new layout was designed to suit the family’s needs.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much that could be salvaged: for example, the interior wooden doors were warped, and the moldings had undergone multiple interventions over the years that had deteriorated them—rounding edges and blurring details. Given the lack of skilled craftspeople to reproduce them exactly as the originals, the decision was made to remove them, except for those recalling the capital of a Greek temple located in the dining room gallery.

The home’s original windows were restored to their former splendor in tandem with the façade restoration, while the interiors adopt traditional classic finishes with contemporary accents primarily introduced through the furnishings. Renowned brands such as Flexform, Minotti, Louis Poulsen, Santa & Cole, and B&B Italia make up the selection of pieces chosen to furnish this iconic apartment with over a century of history in the heart of A Coruña.
